13th Week of Working from Home! However, the good news is that this is your last week of working from home.
Remember: New week – Clean Slate, Fresh Start.
Whatever school work you managed to achieve last week, that’s fine. Please do not feel the need to carry forward work into the next week. We know that many of you are helping to mind younger siblings and doing some extra chores around the house too.
We have seen plenty of examples of wonderful work, well done. Keep sending in samples of your work, we enjoy seeing them and it gives us an opportunity to interact with you and provide some feedback.
Last week we completed the History of the Irish Famine and Emigration. Your wonderful Speeches on World Poverty and your work on the Irish Famine, will have given you a greater understanding of the plight of many emigrants today, who are fleeing their homelands in the hope of a better and safer life for themselves and their families.
Maths revision commenced with the Test Yourself Chapter in Figure it Out. Many boys are working hard to achieve additional medal points in Mangahigh. This was closely monitored and a number of boys were assigned additional / more advanced activities upon achieving gold medal status in assigned activities. Well done on all your hard work on Mangahigh since 13th March.
It was great to see the lovely certificates which you received upon completion of Lightbot – Hour of Coding, demonstrating an understanding of the basic concepts of Computer Science.
As you will see this week we have significantly reduced the volume of work.
Maths Revision continues with Mathemagic. The relevant Topics / Questions have been provided in a pdf file. Revision work on the same topics will also be assigned within Mangahigh to reinforce the concepts. As you achieve gold medal status within a concept, additional activities will be released on an individual basis.
In Geography, we look at the Properties and Characteristics of Materials, in particular the Properties of Air and Water. We look at some investigations on the Hardness of Materials and the Strength of Newspaper.
This was certainly a 5th class / school term like no other. It will certainly become a topic which will be included in History books. Some day your own children / grandchildren will interview you for your experience of Life during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
You should feel very proud of all that you have achieved in terms of school work (from home) and all the other skills you have learnt / developed during this time. We have seen so many examples of school work, scientific skills, art work, cooking skills and many skills associated with helping in the home. You have definitely gained many skills which you may not ordinarily have had the time to acquire. You should be very proud of yourselves. We are so proud of all of you. You continued to do your best in difficult circumstances. We have never heard so many children mention how much they miss school, miss their classmates and looking forward to getting back to school.
Have a great week and stay safe, well and active. Enjoy the school summer holidays. We look forward to seeing you all in September.
