Overall Winners Tidy Schools in the Community 2016 Competition
Another fantastic achievement for the school to win this award for the second time – the only school to do so. The judges’ comments give a great snap shot of what they saw during the inspection:-
AMAZING! What more needs to be said! 60/60
Litter and Graffiti free.
Lots of additional planting including hanging baskets, trees, vegetables etc. Jam and bread is made from schools produce.
Beautiful orchard with plums and apples are complemented by an excellent vegetable plot.
There are lots of initiatives to support wildlife, too numerous to mention, although the bog garden deserves special reference.
Well done for all your hard work!
Strong evidence of how the litter and waste and biodiversity themes have been incorporated into school life……
The community links are of the highest order……
The students are clearly involved in a range of activities……
The website looks fabulous and obviously Tidy Schools is a big deal, you even have a special Tidy Schools button on the homepage……
It’s difficult to find fault with the work being undertaken by the children, teachers, principal, and staff at Our Lady of Good Counsel Boys’ National School. The judges summed it up perfectly with their opening comment.
They were also very impressed by the boys who gave them the ‘grand tour’ of the garden and grounds. We owe a huge thank you to Annamaria Corrigan, Petr, Mr. Geoghegan, Sandra Bowen, Sandra Maguire and the boys in the Garden Club. Thanks also to Henry and Jennifer Moore who play an important role in facilitating community involvement.

Congratulations and well done to all the boys who were busy collecting loose change. To date, a total of €1,600.00 has been collected, with more still coming in. A fantastic amount of money! Confirmation and Holy Communion classes are also donating money which will be added to the above amount.
Congratulations to the boys in our second classes who received their First Holy Communion recently. They were a credit to everyone and we were honoured to join with them in celebrating the Sacrament. Thank you to Ms. Gavin, Mr. Kelly, Louise, Valerie, Roseanne and Mr. Geoghegan for all their help with the preparations.
As always the ceremony was greatly enhanced by the School Choir and their beautiful singing. Well done to all the boys who turned up on the Saturday morning. Thank you to Mrs. de Barra, Mr. Clancy and Ms. Ryan for all their work with the choir and enabling the Choir to reach such a high standard.
We also thank the Parents’ Association who arranged the Communion Breakfast which was greatly appreciated by everyone. We also thank the parents who helped on the day and those who generously donated cakes/buns etc.
