Letter to Parents 27 October 2016

Dear Parents,

As per the holiday schedule please note that the school will be closed for mid-term from Monday 31st October to Friday November 4th (inclusive). Normal school closing times will apply tomorrow Friday.

Croke Park

Congratulations and well done to the Senior Football Team on reaching the final and playing in Croke Park yesterday.  The boys played brilliantly throughout and were ahead for most of the match.  Unfortunately for Johnstown, two goals in rapid succession which were simply unstoppable saw the opposition sneak ahead and stay ahead to the final whistle. We are still very proud of the boys and their memories from yesterday will remain with them many years from now.  We thank Mr. Clancy and Ms. Bouskine for all their hard work with the team.  We also thank other teachers and parents who have assisted and encouraged the boys.  We also take this opportunity to thank the supporters who really rallied behind the team and who were also so well behaved not alone in Croke Park but enroute to/from the venue also.

Staff Inservice

Notification has been received from the Professional Development Service for Teachers that inservice pertaining to the revised Language Curriculum will be delivered to the teaching staff on Monday, November 28th.  As a result the school will be closed for all pupils on that day.

October Cake Sale

As already notified the annual Cake Sale takes place tomorrow starting shortly after 9.00a.m. in the Hall.  Parents are welcome to attend also.  Hopefully, people will be busy baking tonight and we look forward to a successful Cake Sale.  If pupils wish to dress up tomorrow that is fine and adds to the fun!

Plant Stall – Christmas Fair

We are urgently seeking assistance from any parents(s) who would be willing to co-ordinate the Plant Stall.  There is work involved in advance of the Fair (December 3rd) to make this stall a success. This involves collecting greenery, shopping for related sundries, helping to co-ordinate the night when the fresh arrangements are actually made in the school hall.  There is a base group mainly consisting of former parents who are still thankfully involved but we urgently need to recruit parents of current pupils.  If you can assist please email your contact details to

During mid-term we would strongly advise all pupils to avoid the school/church environs for their own safety.  We would also ask parents to keep a watchful eye on the schools and report any suspicious activity to the Gardaí.

We trust that everyone will have a safe and enjoyable mid-term.

Yours sincerely,

Neil Cadogan
