Letter to Parents 5 April 2017

Dear Parents,

As per holiday schedule the school will close at 12 noon on Friday April 7th for Easter Holidays. It will reopen at 8.50 a.m. on Monday April 24th 2017 for all pupils.

Congratulations to the boys in our sixth classes who were confirmed on Friday.  They were an absolute credit to everyone for the way they conducted themselves and participated in a beautiful ceremony.  Thank you to Mrs. Sheehan and Ms. Bouskine for all their hard work in preparing the boys so well.  We thank the School Choir for an outstanding performance.  We also thank Mrs. de Barra and Mr. Clancy for all the work they put into the choir and the benefit the children derive from it.  Thanks also to the Parents’ Association who organised the Confirmation Breakfast, the parents who helped on the day and indeed the parents who generously provided cakes and buns.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Non-Uniform Day

The recent non-uniform day realised €675.12.  Well done to the boys for collecting this amount.  The Student Council decided that €235.12 will be donated to the RNLI, €220 to a past pupil undertaking voluntary work in Zambia and €220 to Temple Street Hospital.  We also received €170 from Parents of 6th class pupils that will go to RNLI. The boys in our 6th classes have also pledged money to RNLI, Cancer Research, Spina Bifida and Temple Street Hospital.  We will give the final amounts when all money has been donated.

Visit of Annalise Murphy

It was a very special occasion when we had a visit from Annalise Murphy – who won a Silver Medal in the 2016 Olympics during the week.  She gave a very informative talk to the boys – many of who were lucky to have had their photo taken with her. Hopefully, her talk might inspire some of the boys to take an interest in sailing and try it out.

We also congratulate the Cuala hurlers who were recently crowned AIB All-Ireland club champions after a very impressive 12 point win over Ballyhea.  Cuala have had a long association with the school and we thank them for their support over many years.  It was fantastic to see 8 of our past pupils on the team – David and Sean Treacy, Paul and Mark Schutte, John Sheanon, Donal Lane, Stephen Butler and Ryan di Felice.  We wish them all well in the future and who knows some of our current pupils may well feature in years to come.

The School Soccer league has commenced and the Hurling league will be in full swing after the holiday.

Credit Union Quiz All Ireland Final

Congratulations and well done to Dylan Bradley, Aaron Foley, Fionn Lowry and Alex Mongomery Brennan who took part in the All Ireland Final on Sunday last.  The boys did extremely well given that they were up against teams from the entire country. Thank you to Mr. Clancy for all his help with the quiz team and attending the final.

Congratulations to Sean Byrne, Joseph Villalonga Corr, Conor Lowry and Cameron Holland who recently returned to the school with another trophy having finished fourth in Division One of the Leinster Schools League.  A win in the next Chess competition will, hopefully, see the School Chess team through to the All-Ireland Schools Competition in Limerick.

Trócaire Boxes

Please hold Trócaire Boxes at home until after the holidays.  They will be collected on April 26th.

Finally, we hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable Easter.

Yours sincerely,

Neil Cadogan
